Zepbound® is FDA approved for weight loss and contains the active ingredient Tirzepatide. Zepbound® is a GLP-1/GIP agonist. GLP1 (Glucagon-like peptide-1) and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) are two hormone naturally occurring in the body that are responsible for regulating blood sugar, appetite, and digestion.

Both Zepbound® and Mounjaro® share the same active ingredient, Tirzepatide. While these medication names are commonly used interchangeably, Mounjaro® is used to treat Type 2 Diabetes.

Zepbound® works by mimicking natural GLP-1 and GIP hormones helping slow digestion, reducing appetite, increasing satiety, promoting fat metabolism and optimizing blood sugar levels.

Zepbound® may be covered by insurance. Individual insurance plans and coverage vary.

Insurance may require a Prior Authorization prior to approving Zepbound® coverage. This may include meeting specific criteria: a BMI (body mass index) greater than 27, history of cardiovascular associated risk factors (high blood pressure, high cholesterol, Type 2 Diabetes, cardiovascular disease and/or sleep apnea) and history of previous weight loss medication use.
